GODERICH – A Guelph man charged with sexual exploitation of a local student between the start of 1998 and the end of 1999 is scheduled to be in court on Feb. 11.
Lawyer Scott Cowan, of The Ross Firm Professional Corporation, told Provincial court this morning he was retained by the accused’s lawyer, Susan Chapman, of Ursel Phillips Fellows Hopkinson LLP, to ask for an adjournment to a later date. The accused, Gilbert James Pinkney, was not in the courtroom.
Pinkney, now 38, was an educational assistant for the Avon Maitland District School Board at the time he is alleged to have engaged in sexual activity with a student outside of school hours, according to a press release issued by on OPP Dec. 7.
Pinkney is on leave with pay from his job as an educational assistant at Shakespeare Public School in Stratford, employed by the Avon Maitland District School Board.
The court placed a ban on publication of any information that could lead to the identity of the complainant.
