Bullet News BAYFIELD – When five scholars and professionals were asked to deliver short monologues on the subject of adaptation during TEDxBayfield this past fall, each brought a different perspective to the stage.
They first shared their ideas with people in a packed room at the Bayfield Town Hall in Huron County’s first live TEDx event, organized by Erin Roy, co-editor of Ruralist. Now the videos are available on You Tube and Vimeo for viewing around the world.
The videos include monologues from: Laura Sygrove, a Goderich native who is executive director of New Leaf Yoga Foundation, which teaches people to overcome histories of abuse, neglect and marginalization and to realize their potential through yoga; Steve Baker, who is principal of the Virtual High School in Bayfield, which provides students with the opportunity to achieve success according to the student’s own interests, abilities and goals; Lorelei Lingard, a leading researcher in the study of communication and collaboration on healthcare teams and professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Western Ontario; Paul Ciufo, an award-winning playwright whose play Narcisse garnered a 2011 Governor General’s History Award; and Lynn Ogryzlo, culinary activist, food columnist, and cookbook author who is changing the local food world one household at a time with her message to spend $10 weekly on local food.
TEDx events are community-based events that combine a suite of live and video talks, presentations and demonstrations.
