Bluewater Mayor Bill Dowson was presented the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal from Deputy Mayor Paul Klopp at the March 4 council meeting, with family and friends in attendance. Dowson was nominated by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) for his work in local government. Dowson was elected as a councillor for the Township of Stanley in 1985. He served as councillor until he was elected as deputy reeve in 1998. He became the first mayor for the newly amalgamated Municipality of Bluewater in November 2000, where he has served the residents of Bluewater as mayor ever since. Dowson has been a member of Huron County Bean Growers Board, Hensall & District Co-operative, Federation of Agriculture, Huron County Pork Producers, Varna-Goshen United Church, Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority and the College of Ontario Nurses and is a dedicated volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
