STRATFORD – United Way Perth-Huron’s fund-raising campaign for 2012 raised $21,000 more than the previous year, but fell short of its $1,082,012 goal.
An 11th hour cross-country tour of Huron and Perth counties brought the organization closer to its goal, but missed the mark by $8,500. However, campaign co-chairs Elizabeth Cooper and Nick Sawicki told volunteers, donors and staff gathered at Stratford’s Arden Park Hotel for an awards dinner recently that they’re pleased with the campaign results.
Copper said the United Way hit its campaign goal in 2011 “despite difficult times and despite a tornado” and met challenges in 2012
“ When we met as a team to discuss the campaign goal for 2012, we looked at what was accomplished in 2011, then, we looked at all of the requests that came in from the community. Once again, even with the struggling economy and lower donations from some workplaces and corporations, we have raised more campaign dollars than ever before. We are so proud of our accomplishment,” she said.
One in three people will use the services and programs funded by United Way.
“This has been a year when so many in our community have faced uncertainty, yet they found it in their hearts to support their neighbours. This is truly what makes Perth-Huron such a wonderful place to live,” said Ryan Erb, who is the executive director.
At the awards dinner, many awards were given out to major individual, workplace and corporate donors who supported the United Way.
Donations are being accepted at the United Way office located at 32 Erie Street, Stratford, online at www.perthhuron.unitedway.ca, and by phone 1-877-818-8867 until March 31.
