Goderich joins global campaign to end violence against women, girls

onebillionrisingGODERICH – The Goderich community is invited to join activists around the world for the largest day of action in the history of V-Day, a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls.

On Feb. 14, at noon, all are welcome at East Street Station to join in One Billion Rising, which began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that one in three women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime.

With the world population at seven billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.

On V-Day’s 15th anniversary, join activists, writers, thinkers, celebrities, and women and men across the world as we express their outrage, demand change, strike, dance, and rise in defiance of the injustices women suffer, demanding an end at last to violence against women.

East Street Station Nia Instructor Ruth Percy will lead this event. There is no admission for this event, but donations will be accepted for the Huron Women’s Shelter.

For more information, call Ruth at 519-524-2252 or East Street Station at 519-524-5612, or e-mail [email protected] or [email protected]. To learn more about One Billion Rising visit online.
