HURON COUNTY – Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for northern Huron County this morning.

Expect cold, strong northwest winds over Lake Huron and Georgian Bay to generate local snow squalls. The strongest snow squalls are capable of producing visibilities near zero in bursts of heavy snow and local blowing snow as well as snowfall rates of 1 to 3 cm per hour. Local snowfall amounts of up to 15 cm are possible under the heaviest bands.

Today, wind west 40 km/h gusting to 60. High minus 12. Wind chill minus 27.

It has also issued a less serious snow squall watch for southern Huron County.

Snow squalls currently affecting portions of Grey – Bruce and northern Huron County are expected to shift south later today.

Motorists should be prepared for poor winter driving conditions as sudden reductions to visibility are possible in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Wind west 30 km/h becoming light early this afternoon.

Temperature steady near minus 14. Wind chill minus 25 this afternoon.

This morning, Hwy. 21 is closed from Port Elgin to just 3.5-km north of Goderich.
