HURON COUNTY – The United Way of Perth Huron faces a $65,000 shortfall as its campaign winds down for another year.
“While our campaign has gone smoother than the last two years up to this point, we find ourselves fighting to make it to the finish line,” said Ryan Erb, who is executive director.
“We are counting on the people of Perth and Huron to once again help us reach our goal. With one in three people in our community relying on us, we won’t give up until we get there,” he said
More than 50 agencies, projects, and divisions across Perth and Huron counties depend on funding from United Way.
Lesley Spencer Cooper, who is the campaign manager said while the United Way has seen new donors, there has been a drop in giving from workplaces and individuals.
“We do want to recognize the many others who have generously contributed more than ever. We want to celebrate the numerous donors who give faithfully each year to the United Way,” she said
The United Way of Perth Huron increased its campaign goal from $1,052,011 in 2011 to $1,082,012 in 2012 to address the increasing needs of its agencies.
“We knew it would be challenging to increase the goal so substantially”, Erb said, “but we also know that we have a responsibility to provide for the needs of the people. With more challenging economic times, programs have additional clients with more varied needs. The people of our community are a generous group and we are confident we can count on them to rise to the challenge.”
