 GODERICH -  At approximately 10:30 p.m. yesterday, a Huron OPP officer observed a Chevrolet Astro van travelling west on Picton Street East.  The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver.  Officers determined the driver had consumed some alcohol and a roadside test was completed.  The results of the test produced a warn range reading.  The driver, a 62-year-old male from Goderich has lost his driving privileges for seven days as this was his second warn range suspension.

SUSPENDED DRIVER SLIDES OFF ROADWAY

HURON EAST  –A motor vehicle crash has led to a court date for a female driver from Brussels.

Just before midnight on Dec. 19, 2012 Huron OPP officers responded to the collision on Newry Road near McNabb Line.  Officers arrived to find a black Dodge Ram pickup in the north ditch.  The driver lost control of the truck when she encountered ice on the roadway.  The driver of the vehicle was not injured however upon checking her driver’s licence officers determined she was a suspended driver.

As a result, the 25-year-old woman from Huron East has been charged with driving while suspended.  She has a scheduled court date set for Jan. 22, 2013 at Provincial Offences Court in Goderich.

DRIVER FACING DRUG CHARGE

SOUTH HURON - On Dec. 18, 2012 at 8:48 p.m. a Huron County OPP officer on patrol observed a grey Toyota Echo leaving the parking lot of the former Usborne Central Public School located on Huron Street East.

The officer stopped the driver and immediately detected an odour of an illegal drug.  In plain view of the officer was a small quantity of drugs.  The male driver was placed under arrest, a search was completed and an additional quantity of illegal drug was found in the vehicle.

As a result, a 20-year-old man from South Huron has been charged with possession of a controlled substance.  He has a court date scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter on Feb. 28, 2013.  

MALE FACING FLIGHT FROM POLICE & DRUG CHARGES

SOUTH HURON –On Dec. 14, 2012 at approximately 11:10 p.m. Huron County OPP officers stopped a southbound grey Toyota Camry that entered a RIDE checkpoint in Exeter on Main Street South near Waterloo Street.

Upon speaking with the driver, officers noted an odour of an illegal drug coming from inside the vehicle.  Officers directed the driver to the side of the road for further questioning.  The driver immediately took off from the RIDE checkpoint, with officers following. The driver then pulled over a short distance from the checkpoint.  The male driver was immediately arrested for fleeing police.  Upon searching the driver, officers discovered a quantity of an illegal drug.

As a result, a 30-year-old man from Goderich has been charged with fleeing police and possession of a controlled substance.  He has a court date scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter on Jan. 24, 2013.

WELDING EQUIPMENT, COPPER WIRE STOLEN FROM CUBE VAN 

GODERICH –Huron OPP officers are investigating the recent theft of welding tools and copper wire stolen from a cube van parked on Suncoast Drive East in Goderich.  Sometime between 6 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2012 and 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 12, 2012 those responsible entered the unlocked cube van and stole approximately $1,000 worth of supplies.

The stolen items are described as:

  • 2 boxes of Unibraze MIG copper wire valued at $170;
  • 2 boxes of Murex .035 MIG copper wire valued at $140;
  • 110 pounds of Lincoln welding rods valued at $330; and
  • Several Jet zip cutting discs and Jet chop saw blades valued at $370.
