Weekend roundup: Here’s your chance to catch the Christmas bug

HURON COUNTY – If the Christmas bug hasn’t hit you yet, this is the weekend to catch it in Huron County. It’s a non-stop caroling, singing, music, lights, treats and Santa-sightings.

Here’s a sampling of events:

Friday

Seaforth Lions Santa Claus Parade, Seaforth

Date: Friday, Nov. 30, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Location: Main Street

Description: Lighted Santa Claus parade. Theme: Christmas is Coming! Starts at Seaforth Agriplex and Fair Grounds, 116 Chalk St. N. After the parade, meet with Santa at the Seaforth Legion.

Saturday

Brussels Santa Claus Parade, Brussels

Date: Saturday, Dec. 1, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Starting from the Brussels Morris Grey Community Centre.

Description: Come out and enjoy a great family evening.  Visit with Santa after the parade.  Free skating is available.

Big Brothers & Big Sisters of South Huron Christmas Shopping Event, Exeter

Date: Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Location: South Huron Recreation Centre

Description: Visit with Santa for a canned good donation to the ’Adopt a Family’ campaign. The first 100 customers through the door will receive a Christmas Gift Bag decorated by one of the Littles.

Breakfast With Santa, Goderich

Date: Saturday, Dec. 1, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Location: Knox Presbyterian Church, 9 Victoria St. N.

Description:  Please come out to enjoy a delicious home cooked breakfast of sausage, pancakes, eggs, muffins and local maple syrup and apple cider. The “real” Santa and his Elves will be there to visit with the children and learn their Christmas wishes. There is a wonderful craft area for kids and family to create yet another Christmas treasure. Last but not least, there will be Christmas songs by local musicians and the opportunity to create and receive a little Christmas cheer. All proceeds go to Huron Women’s Shelter in memory of Sue Munnoch. Cost: Adults $6; Children, $4; Families $20.

An Old Fashioned Christmas Bazaar & Lunch, Goderich

Date: Saturday, Dec. 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Location: North Street United Church, 56 North St.

Description: While the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is all around, come and enjoy An Old Fashioned Christmas Bazaar & Lunch.  Featuring crafts, baking, preserves, and frozen pies. Cost: $7 for lunch.

Kintail School Flea Market, Kintail

Date: Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Hwy. 21 north of Kintail on west side of road

Description: Browse through a vast array of treasures in the unique setting of former school SS#3 Ashfield. Enjoy a taste of good country-style cooking in the kitchen.

Wings & Tunes Acoustic Jam Night, Wingham

Date: Saturday, Dec. 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Location: Royal Canadian Legion Branch 180, 183 Victoria St. W.

Description: Wings served from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Eat-in only. All proceeds to Wingham Legion.

SUNDAY

No Tax Event & Open House, Goderich

Date: Sunday, Dec. 2, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; some store hours may vary.

Location: Sixteen shops in downtown Goderich.

Description: Free horse drawn wagon rides from noon to 4 p.m. Santa and his elves from noon to 2 p.m.

A Global Christmas Celebration, Goderich

Date: Sunday, Dec. 2, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: St. George’s Anglican Church, 87 North St.

Description: Blyth Festival Singers presents unique Christmas music from around the world. Joining the Singers once again is the acclaimed blues and gospel singer Denise Pelley and accompanist Stephen Holowitz. Cost: Adults, $15; Children 12 & under, $6.

Riverview Singingalong with Don Rivera and Friends, Goderich

Date: Sunday, Dec. 2, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Location: Please email [email protected] for location information or reservations.

Description: Don and Debbie will lead carols using the David Francey Christmas Songbook. You are invited to come and share or lead a couple of seasonal songs or tunes yourself in this living room intimate atmosphere. Instruments welcome. The evening’s donations (suggested $20 – $25) will be donated to the ArtsCan Circle, a wonderful organization that sends musicians and artists to work with youth at risk in far northern communities.
