Trees return to Goderich thanks to kindness of donors

The return of the trees to Court House Park in Goderich on Saturday Nov. 10 was a moment those who attended will never forget.

“We could not have done it without those who made donations towards the trees purchase,” said John Grace, who is the deputy mayor and chair of the town’s rebuild committee.

More than 260 donors, some from as far away as B.C. and the U.S. made it possible for the town to purchase larger trees that will give residents an instant canopy.

From the children who sold Kool-Aid and bracelets, to those who donated in memory of a loved one, to Bruce Power, which donated $180,000 ($150,000 to the trees and $30,000 to other tornado-related costs), to the City of London which donated $50,000 every effort was appreciated and we will be forever grateful for the gesture, he said.

With the weather co-operating new trees are being planted this week with the biggest of the trees arriving within the next couple of weeks.

The next ROSCO meeting will be held Wednesday Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. in Council Chamber at Goderich Town Hall.

The agenda will include brief updates on the Stage 1 Court House Park rebuild features including washrooms, performance stage and gazebo.

Discussion will begin on Stage 2 of the Master Plan.  Stage 2 includes plans and options for the roadway and storefront side of The Square along with the spoke streets.

All ROSCO meetings are public meetings. The committee encourages those interested in following along or offering feedback to attend.
