Grant program helps youth make a difference in community

STRATFORD – A youth advisory board to the United Way of Perth-Huron is now accepting applications to fund youth driven projects within Perth and Huron counties for up to $1,000.

The Youth United Council has created the grant program to assist young leaders in addressing issues that are important to them and their community. Projects must have a lead youth applicant aged 14 to 25 and an adult trustee to assist in the stewardship of funds.

A few of the grant recipients from last year include the Stratford Youth Centre’s The Truth, which will create a documentary with the hopes of dispelling the myths about the Youth Centre in the Community, Twice the Meal, which will provide youth the opportunity to learn about making healthy food choices by taking classes led by chefs and nutritionists and Vivace, which is a program that provides free instrumental and voice lessons to children and youth whose families may not otherwise be able to afford them and to provide sheet music and instrumental rentals as necessary.

To apply, visit on-line. Applications open Oct. 29, 2012 and close Nov. 19, 2012.
