Huron County OPP report

HURON COUNTY – Officers from the Huron County OPP detachment charged 111 drivers and passengers during the Provincial Fall Seatbelt Campaign, which ran from Sept. 24 to Oct. 6.

Throughout the province, OPP officers issued 5,856 tickets during the campaign.

Although this campaign has concluded, officers will be on the lookout for drivers and passengers failing to buckle up.

MALE FACING PROPERTY CRIME CHARGES

GODERICH - Huron County OPP officers have arrested and charged a 20-year-old male for several property related offences.  On July 23, 2012 a purse was stolen from a business in Goderich.  Later that day, the accused attempted to use the stolen debit card and credit card at a local bank in Goderich.  On July 24, 2012 a delivery driver had his wallet stolen from his unlocked truck while he was making a delivery on South Street in Goderich.  A short while later the accused was observed using the stolen credit card at a bank machine in Goderich.  On July 31, 2012 a resident from Colborne Street in Goderich had her unlocked vehicle entered and her wallet was stolen.  The accused was later observed using one of the stolen debit cards at a bank in Goderich.

The Goderich man was arrested Sept. 18 and is charged with four counts of possession of stolen property, five counts of using a stolen credit card and three counts of failing to comply with his probation conditions.

He has been released from custody with a scheduled court appearance on Oct. 15, 2012 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

CHARGES LAID IN STOLEN DEBIT CARD INVESTIGATION

GODERICH – Huron County OPP officers have arrested and charged a 23-year-old male for using stolen debit cards.

A resident from Brock Street in Goderich had her purse stolen from her vehicle sometime between July 28, 2012 and July 29, 2012. Investigation has since determined the accused used these stolen debit cards to withdraw a quantity of cash from the victim’s account and to make purchases from two businesses in Goderich.  As a result, the Goderich man was arrested on Sept. 21.  He is charged with four counts each of possession of stolen property and using a stolen credit card.  He has been released from custody with a scheduled court appearance on Nov. 5, 2012 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

TWO CAUGHT AT EARLY MORNING RIDE PROGRAM

BLUEWATER - On Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at 9:24 a.m., a grey Mazda pickup entered a RIDE checkpoint set up at the intersection of Mill Road and Parr Line.  While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, officers detected an odour of an illegal drug coming from inside the vehicle. Further investigation revealed the passenger was in possession of a small quantity of an illegal drug.

A driver’s licence check on the driver revealed a suspended licence. As a result, the 28-year-old driver, from London, was charged with driving while suspended.  He has a court date scheduled for Nov. 6, 2012 – Provincial Offences Court – Goderich.  The 21-year-old passenger, from London, was charged with possession of a controlled substance. He has a court date scheduled for Nov. 19, 2012 at Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

COPPER WIRE & POWER TOOLS STOLEN

HURON EAST – Huron OPP officers are investigating a break, enter and theft from the Hydro One substation located on London Road in Vanastra.  The theft took place sometime between Sept. 29, 2012 and Oct. 2, 2012.  The thief stole two partial spools of #4 ground wire that were marked Republic Wire Inc., a Stihl chainsaw and a gas-powered Stihl drill.  Both of the power tools had Hydro One etched into them.

A red, 1994 to 2000 model Chevrolet pickup had been seen in and around the property on Sept. 29, 2012.
