GODERICH - Both sides in a labour dispute at Sifto’s salt mine have resolved outstanding issues in a tentative agreement reached last month.
The 380 members of Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada Local 16-O will hold a ratification vote on the three-year agreement with Sifto Canada Corp. tomorrow, Sept. 29.
Glenn Sonier, who is the union’s national representative was reluctant to speak about the tentative agreement until union members vote on it, but he agreed it’s the best deal the negotiating team could get at this time.
The workers at the mine have been on strike since Aug. 20 after negotiations between union representatives and Compass Minerals representatives broke down. Compass Minerals is the parent company of Sifto Canada Corp., which owns the salt mine in Goderich.
The last contract had an end date of April 1, but remains effective under legislation.
