Garden tour organizing meeting planned for tomorrow night

Building on the success of its first garden tour this past July, Huron Perth Garden Tours’ organizing committee is holding a public meeting tomorrow night in Clinton to plan the garden tours for the 2013 garden season.

“Everyone who is interested in showcasing their garden or to learn more about this new gardening organization is welcome to attend this meeting,” said Linda Henhoeffer, who is a committee member.  “We are hoping to grow the number of garden locations for 2013, adding interesting stops along the way for gardeners and garden lovers alike”.

The meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at OMAFRA offices, 100 Don St., Clinton.

There were 15 sites in two counties on the July 14 Undiscovered Gardens route.

Private gardens included the Purple Rooster near Gorrie, and Riverbend Gardens and Nursery where visitors could see more than 1,000 varieties of hostas.  In the Goderich area, Kim Burgsma’s Almost Eden garden is set above the Mailtand River Valley on the bluff above Saltford.  At St. Joseph, south of Bayfield, the garden creation of Brentwood on the Beach host Peter Karsten were featured.

The committee hopes to expand the tour and experiences for 2013 and encourages all interested gardeners to attend this planning session to develop routes, locations and additional ideas.
