Environment Canada issues weather statement as rainfall heads this way

HURON COUNTY – Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement that significant rainfall is on tap tonight and into Saturday throughout most of southwestern Ontario, including Huron County. Relevant areas include:

London – Middlesex

Simcoe – Delhi – Norfolk

Oxford – Brant

Niagara

City of Hamilton

Halton – Peel

York – Durham

Huron – Perth

Waterloo – Wellington

Dufferin – Innisfil

Grey – Bruce

Barrie – Orillia – Midland

Belleville – Quinte – Northumberland

Kingston – Prince Edward

Peterborough – Kawartha Lakes

Stirling – Tweed – South Frontenac

Bancroft – Bon Echo Park

Brockville – Leeds and Grenville

City of Ottawa

Gatineau

Smiths Falls – Lanark – Sharbot Lake

Parry Sound – Muskoka

Haliburton

Renfrew – Pembroke – Barry’s Bay

Algonquin

Burk’s Falls – Bayfield Inlet.

A low pressure area over the U.S. Midwest is forecast to track towards the Great Lakes today then intensify as it moves across southern Ontario into Quebec on Saturday.

This disturbance will be quite laden with moisture and is expected to bring a general 20 to 40 mm rainfall across much of the district by Saturday evening.

A few local rainfall amounts near 50 mm are possible in areas that receive a thunderstorm or two.

In the wake of this disturbance later Saturday and into Sunday, considerably cooler air ushered in by brisk northwesterly winds will bring a taste of fall to Southern Ontario.

Environment Canada is monitoring this situation closely.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.

For Huron County

Today…Increasing cloudiness. 40 per cent chance of showers this afternoon with risk of a thunderstorm. Wind becoming west 20 km/h late this afternoon. High 24. UV index 5 or moderate.

Tonight…Cloudy. 40 per cent chance of showers early this evening. Rain beginning this evening. Risk of a thunderstorm this evening and overnight. Amount 20 to 30 mm. Wind west 20 km/h becoming light this evening. Wind becoming northeast 30 before morning. Low 15.

Saturday…Rain ending in the evening then cloudy. Risk of a thunderstorm. Amount 5 mm. Wind northeast 30 km/h becoming northwest 50 gusting to 70 in the afternoon then diminishing to 30 in the evening. High 17.
