Environment Canada predicts heavy rain for Huron-Perth

Environment Canada is calling for heavy rain in Huron-Perth, according to a weather statement issued at 5:20 p.m. for:

Sarnia – Lambton

London – Middlesex

Elgin

Simcoe – Delhi – Norfolk

Dunnville – Caledonia – Haldimand

Niagara

Huron – Perth

Dufferin – Innisfil

Grey – Bruce

Barrie – Orillia – Midland

Parry Sound – Muskoka

Burk’s Falls – Bayfield Inlet

An area of low pressure near the Michigan – Ontario border will track slowly northeastward over the next 48 hours.

Periods of rain associated with the low will affect the regions from the Bruce Peninsula to northeast of Georgian Bay through Saturday night.  General rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm are expected this evening through Saturday with local amounts to 50 mm in isolated thunderstorm activity.

For areas near Southern Lake Huron locally heavy thunderstorms are expected early this evening with local rainfall up to 50 mm in an hour and frequent cloud to ground lightning. Local wind gusts to 70 km/h are possible as well as small hail with the early evening storms.

For areas in near Lake Erie the showers will be more scattered and the threat for local heavy rain will be confined to this evening and overnight.
