LETTER: MPP expresses gratitude, support for new Police Memorial Highway

Dear Editor:

Yesterday, three fallen heroes were recognized by having their names forever etched on the new Police Memorial Highway. While I could not be there in person due to prior commitments, I felt the need to express my gratitude and support for the renaming of County Road 12 to Police Memorial Highway.

We remembered three sons, fathers, husbands, first responders and heroes who passed away in the line of duty — protecting our roads from looming danger. These men sacrificed themselves to ensure safety for our community, and we are forever indebted to them.

We must be thankful to their families, who unselfishly gave their sons, fathers and husbands to a life of community safety and protection. I come from a family of OPP officers, and I know how these officers and their families give of themselves on a daily basis to keep you and me safe.

These men were tragically taken from their families and from their communities at young ages, all in the line of duty. I cannot begin to express my sincere gratitude to their families, and the hundreds of other officers who go to work every day with the goal of keeping us safe. I also want to thank Huron County for recognizing the importance that these men had in our community, and for putting together such a fitting tribute.

Sincerely,

Lisa Thompson, MPP
Huron-Bruce
