Five arrested in Clinton drug bust

CENTRAL HURON – Five people were arrested and a quantity of illegal drugs with a street value of $2,000 were seized in a police drug raid at a Clinton home Tuesday.

On August 1, 2012 members from the OPP Huron County Detachment Crime Unit along with assistance from the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on James Street in Clinton.

As a result of the execution of the search warrant, police seized a quantity of illegal drugs including:  methamphetamine, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), hydromorphone, cannabis resin, psilocybin (magic mushrooms), marijuana and MDMA (Ecstasy).

Officers also seized several items of stolen property including jewellery, electronics and power tools.  In addition, a prohibited weapon commonly referred to as “brass knuckles” was seized.

As a result of the investigation five people have been charged:

◦                      A 37-year-old man from Central Huron is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of possession, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of a prohibited weapon;

◦                      A 64-year-old man from Central Huron is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of possession, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000;

◦                      A 65-year-old woman from Central Huron is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of possession, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000;

◦                      A 21-year-old woman from Central Huron is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and four counts of possession; and

◦                      A 24-year-old man from Central Huron is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and four counts of possession.

The 37-year-old man is currently in custody.  All other accused have been released with a scheduled court appearance on Aug. 20, 2012 at Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

POLICE ARREST THREE MEN IN SUSPICIOUS FIRES

NORTH HURON Huron OPP officers have arrested and charged three 19-year-old men in relation to crimes that took place in Blyth between June 27, 2012 and July 3, 2012.

Fires were set at Thuell Street and Queen Street in Blyth causing damage to a street sign, the roadway, a small tree and some landscaping lights.  On June 27, 2012 a brush pile was set ablaze at the North Huron sewage plant located at 117 North Street.  The fire caused approximately $3,000 in damage to the asphalt beneath the brush pile.  Later on July 3, 2012 police responded to a Queen Street address to investigate an arson that destroyed a 1998 Dodge Durango.

Officers received information later in July that ultimately led to the arrest and charges against the three males this week.

A Goderich man has been charged with arson causing damage to property and breach of probation in connection with his involvement in the arson to the North Huron sewage plant brush pile fire.  He was released from custody and has a scheduled court appearance on Aug. 27, 2012 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

An Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh man has been charged with:  Theft under $5,000 for stealing a gasoline container and landscaping lights from a Thuell Street property; three counts of arson for damaging a Thuell Street road sign, the roadway itself and the landscaping lights, and arson to the North Huron sewage plant brush pile fire.  Also, he is charged with arson for a fraudulent purpose for his involvement in the arson to the Dodge Durango.  In addition, he is facing two counts of public mischief for reporting an offence that was not committed in relation to the arson of the Dodge Durango.  As well, he has been charged with five counts of breach of probation.  He has been released from custody and has a scheduled court appearance set for Aug. 27, 2012 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

A  North Huron man has been charged with arson to the North Huron sewage plant brush pile fire, arson for a fraudulent purpose in connection with destroying his Dodge Durango and making a fraudulent insurance claim and two counts of public mischief causing police to enter into a false investigation.  He has been released from custody and has a scheduled court appearance set for Aug. 27, 2012 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

LICENCE SUSPENDED FOR 90 DAYS

SOUTH HURON – On July 21, 2012 at approximately 9:50 p.m. a Huron County OPP officer stopped a Nissan Pathfinder on Airport Line near Crediton Road.  Upon speaking with the male driver the officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol.

A 40-year-old man from Lakeshore has been charged with drive a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol.  He has a court date scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter on Sept. 27, 2012.  He received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

    These drug dealers need to have their names and addresses published from the time they are arrested. They also should be held without bail until their trial. We need to protect our children from these sub humans. It is past time the people of Ontario stood up and say enough is enough. Drug dealers and child molesters MUST be kept off the streets at all costs and when our police are able to catch them red-handed as above they should not be allowed to walk our streets ever again!
