A disturbance approaching Central Minnesota this morning is forecast to reach the Central Great Lakes tonight. Potent thunderstorms are likely to form later this afternoon near a warm front affiliated with the low. They are expected to cross Southern Ontario tonight, and will likely generate some much needed rain in many areas in a swath from Lake Huron and Georgian Bay to Lake Ontario and possibly Lake Erie. It may well be the most widespread rainfall in weeks across portions of Southern Ontario. General amounts of 15 to 30 mm are quite possible with locally higher amounts in the heaviest thunderstorms. The thunderstorms may be quite intense with the potential for damaging wind gusts and large hail in addition to the heavy downpours. A spectacular display of frequent and intense lightning will also likely accompany the storms.

There is some uncertainty as to the regions that may be most affected by the storms. Environment Canada will monitor the development of the thunderstorms particularly later today when severe thunderstorm watches may be required.

Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada.
