HURON COUNTY – Everyone is Irish in Huron County this weekend. Whether it’s a supper of corned beef a cabbage, desserts with an Irish twist or treats and games, there’s a little bit o’ green everywhere you turn. And you can be sure the local bars and restaurants are planning something special for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Here’s a listing of some activities taking place across the county this weekend:

FRIDAY

Lesson and Dance, Blyth

Date: Friday, March 15, from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Location: Blyth East Side Dance Studio, 273 Hamilton St.

Description: Every Friday night features a lesson in one Ballroom or Latin Dance. The lesson is taught with beginners in mind and is 45 minutes long. Stay and dance the rest of the evening. Cost is $5 per person. Feel free to drop in. No need to pre-register.

MacKenzie Blues Band, Brussels

Date: Friday, March 15. Doors open at 8 p.m.; show at 8:30 p.m.; dinner seatings at 6 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Tara and Trevor MacKenzie. Show admission is poor boys blues pay what you can. Call for reservations 519-887-8011.

Young Canada Week Boys C Final Games, Goderich

Date: Friday, March 15

Location: Maitland Recreation Centre, 190 Suncoast Dr.

Description: Goderich Lions Club presents the 64th Annual Young Canada Week Pee Wee Hockey Tournament. Final games in Boys C: Blyth-Brussels vs Hanover at 5:50 p.m.; BCH vs North Middlesex at 7:10 p.m.

St. Paddy’s Supper at the Legion, Goderich

Date: Friday, March 15, from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Location: Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109, 56 Kingston St.

Description: Corned beef and cabbage supper from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Music by Power Supply from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Cost, $12. Tickets available at the Legion bar or call Norm 519-524-6973.

GLT’s I’ll be Back Before Midnight, Goderich

Date: Friday, March 15 & Saturday, March 16, starting at 8 p.m.; Sunday, March 17, starting at 2 p.m. (Also on the following weekend.)

Location: The Livery, 35 South St.

Description: This play tells the story of a couple that rent a farmhouse from George, who regales them with stories of a terrible murder and the ghost that stalks the farmhouse. Strange sounds, visions of a vengeful ghost – be prepared for an evening of unimaginable suspense and unexpected laughs. I’ll Be Back Before Midnight premiered at the Blyth Festival Theatre in 1979. Tickets, $20 adult, $18 senior, $15 students, $10 youth, are available at the box office, 30 minutes prior to show time.

Coffeehouse Featuring Trent Severn, Goderich

Date: Friday, March 15. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.; show starts at 8 p.m.

Location: East Street Station, 1 Maitland Rd. N

Description: Trent Severn is a trio from Stratford, comprised of indie songster Emm Gryner, the multi-talented Dayna Manning and violin whiz/songbird Laura C. Bates. The sound of this band is Canadiana, based in folk, roots and old country, so it’s only fitting they invited the super-talented group of Ashley Anderson, Bud Mabon, Jenna Ujiye, and Jamie Wallace to open for them. Tickets are now available at the Station or through the Station website. Tickets, $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

SATURDAY

Grand Open of Village Bookshop, Bayfield

Date: Saturday, March 16, starting at 7 p.m.

Location: 24 Main St. S.

Description: Celebrate the Grand Opening of The Village Bookshop’s new location on Bayfield’s historic main street. Meet award-winning Canadian author Miranda Hill, author of Sleeping Funny, a collection of nine fictional short stories. Everyone welcome.

Tim Holland – Circus Ventriloquist, Blyth

Date: Saturday, March 16, children’s shows at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; 8 p.m. adult show.

Location: Blyth Memorial Hall, 423 Queen St.

Description: Juggling, clowning, unicycling and audience participation. Blyth Legion fund-raiser. Tickets, $5, at: the Blyth Festival Box Office; Perfect Design, Clinton; Ernie King, Goderich & Wingham; Blyth Corner Café, Blyth.

Young Canada Week Boys AE Final Games, Goderich

Description: Lakeshore United Church Women presentation. Desserts at 1 p.m.; cards at 2 p.m. Please bring a partner. Cost: $10.

Daniel Steep Magic Show, Goderich

Date: Saturday, March 16, from 3 p.m. to 3:35 p.m.

Location: Goderich Branch Library, 52 Montreal St.

Description: Come and enjoy the magic of Daniel Steep. Free. Large program room. Everyone welcome.

SUNDAY

March Break Finale, Goderich

Date: Sunday, March 17, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Location, Huron County Museum, 110 North St.

Description: Green treats and green crafts at the museums. Plus it’s the past day of Come Play Awhile…Toys You Loved community exhibit. Admission by donation.
