HURON COUNTY – No need to drive very far this weekend to find something to do. Whether it’s a dance performance in Blyth, a skating carnival in Clinton, or any number of events across Huron County, there’s a lot going on.
Here’s a listing of some activities taking place across the county this weekend:
Friday
Wingham Legion Wing Night, Wingham
Date: Friday, February 22, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Location: Royal Canadian Legion Branch 180, 183 Victoria St. W.
Description: Wingham Legion hosts its monthly wing night. Come out and enjoy those famous chicken wings. Eat-in or take out.
Saturday
Dance Showcase, Blyth
Date: Saturday, Feb. 23, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Blyth Memorial Hall, 423 Queen St.
Description: Dance Techniques Showcase of Competitive performances. Acts will include Jazz, Acro, Hip Hop Contemporary and Open dances. Some of their choreographers have been in So You Think You Can Dance and Cirque du Soleil’s Quidam. Guest performances by Dancing with the Stars of Huron County competitors and a very special performance by Almost Famous Players. Tickets, $15, available at the door.
Jim Ryan at the Bakery, Blyth
Date: Saturday, Feb. 23, starting at 8 p.m.
Location: Queen’s Bakery, 430 Queen St.
Description: Singer, songwriter – folk, limerick, rock artist and accomplished guitarist. Known for live performances with Mostly Sideways and at coffee house venues. Call 226-523-9720 for tickets.
Taste of Goderich, Goderich
Date: Saturday, Feb. 23, 6 p.m. to midnight
Location: Knights of Columbus Centre, 390 Parson’s Court
Description: Goderich Lions Club present Taste of Goderich, featuring Goderich and area culinary delights, along with silent and live auctions.
Live auction with MP Ben Lobb. All proceeds to community betterment.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Sample Tastings from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Featuring food By: Benmiller Inn, Boston Pizza, Park House, Pat & Kevin’s, andWest Street Willy’s Eatery. Music by John Ellison from the Soul Brothers Six, who is songwriter of one of the greatest rock & roll hits of all time: Some Kind of Wonderful. SUNDAY
So You Think You Can Skate: Clinton Skating Club Carnival, Clinton
Date: Sunday, Feb. 24, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Central Huron Community Complex
Description: Skaters aged three to 19 will perform. Guest skaters: Western Ontario Pre-Novice Pair Champs, and 10th across Canada, Laura MacGregor and Justin Profit. Tickets, $5 each or $15 for a family, are available at Tasty Treats, Dr. Hany’s or at the door.
99th Annual Goderich & District Mariners’ Service, Goderich
Date: Sunday, Feb. 24, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Location: Knox Presbyterian Church, 9 Victoria St. N.
Description: An event to honour the town’s nautical history. Guest Speaker: David Yates, Local Historian. 59th guest appearance by the
Goderich Harbouraires Men’s Choir. Great Storm of 1913 video at 7 p.m. Service begins at 7:30 p.m. Nautical decorations & exhibits. Everyone welcome. Refreshments to follow.
A Night at The Oscars, Goderich
Date: Sunday, Feb. 24, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Location: Park House Restaurant, 168 West St.
Description: The GLT and Livery Film Fest presentation. Enjoy the 85th annual Academy Awards on the large screen at The Park House Restaurant. Red Carpet starts at 7 p.m. Awards Ceremony begins at 8:30 pm. Free glass of bubbly, 2 for 1 appetizers, prizes and awards. Fancy dress encouraged.
