HURON COUNTY – If it were a new year’s resolution to try something new, this weekend might just be your chance. In the lineup of activities across the county, there are dance lessons in Blyth, photography in Bayfield, and sunrise yoga in Goderich, all either for free or at a reasonable price.

Here’s a listing of events this weekend:

Friday

Lesson and Dance, Blyth

Date: Friday, Jan. 11, from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Location: Blyth East Side Dance Studio, 273 Hamilton St.

Description: Every Friday night features a lesson in one Ballroom or Latin Dance. The lesson is taught with beginners in mind and is 45 minutes long. Stay and dance the rest of the evening. Cost is $5 per person. Feel free to drop in. No need to pre-register.

Saturday

Book Brigade, Bayfield

Date: Saturday, Jan. 12, starting at 10 a.m.

Location: Village Bookshop, 20 Catherine St.

Description: Everyone is invited to be part of the book brigade as the Village Bookshop moves to 24 Main St., site of the former King’s Bakery. Organizers are hoping the brigade will stretch from the old location to the new one, with books passing through many hands to reach their destination.

Photography Workshop, Bayfield

Date: Saturday, Jan. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon

Location: Bayfield Lions’ Community Building, 6 Municipal Rd.

Description: Goderich photographer George Zeothout will lead the workshop Understand Your Digital Camera and Take Better Photos, hosted by the Photography Club of Bayfield. Cost: $10 for club members; $20 for non-members. Reserve by emailing [email protected]

Sunrise Yoga, Chanting & Satsung, Goderich

Date: Saturday, Jan. 12, from 5:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.

Location: East Street Station, 1 Maitland Road

Description: In this free event, come for yoga and chant the Aquarian mantras as the sun comes up. Afterward, enjoy Yogi tea and stay for Satsang, a chance to discuss truth and other topics about the world around us. Bring: a flashlight for reading the mantras; sheepskin, yoga mat or blanket; pillow or meditation cushion; blanket; and comfortable clothes. Goderich Documentary Group, Goderich

Date: Saturday, Jan. 12. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. with film starting at 2 p.m.

Location: Huron County Museum’s Theatre, 110 North St.

Description: In Search of the English Folk Song. This documentary begins with Ken Russell posing the question: “What is a true English folk song, if there is such a thing?” After receiving an indifferent response from his dog, Ken journeys around the countryside of England searching for an answer. He bumps into and interviews such famous artists as: Donovan, Fairport Convention, Osibisa, Eliza Carthy, So What, Edward II and The Albion Band among others. Admission by donation, suggested at $5.

Kintail School Flea Market, Kintail

Date: Saturday, Jan. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Hwy. 21 north of Kintail on west side of road

Description: Browse through a vast array of treasures in the unique setting of former school SS#3 Ashfield. Enjoy a taste of good country-style cooking in the kitchen.

All You Can East Breakfast, Wingham

Date: Saturday, Jan. 12, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Location: Royal Canadian Legion Branch 180, 183 Victoria St. W.

Description: The Wingham Legion hosts its monthly All You Can Eat Breakfast. Come out and get a great start to your weekend.
