Weekend roundup in Huron County

Ron Klusmeier performs in Wingham and Bayfield this weekend to raise funds for Canadian Foodgrains Bank in his final tour.

HURON COUNTY – This weekend is bursting with holiday festivities in Huron County. From tree lighting to parading, shopping to singing, there’s a full slate of activities in every corner of the county.

Here’s a sampling of events:

Friday

Exeter Tree Lighting Ceremony, Exeter

Date: Friday, Nov. 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Location: MacNaughton Park

Saturday

Exeter Lions Santa Claus Parade, Exeter

Date: Saturday, Nov. 24, from noon to 1 p.m.

Location: Commences corner Huron and Main Streets and terminates South Huron Recreation Centre. Also free public skating from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Lakeview Boxing Club Silent Auction, Goderich

Date: Saturday, Nov. 24, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Location: Suncoast Mall, 397 Bayfield Road

Description: Donations and gift certificates from various businesses, sports memorabilia plus Christmas gifts for everyone on your list. A DVD of various boxing matches featuring our club fighters will be shown. There will be a 50/50 draw.

4th Annual Cookie Walk, Goderich

Date: Saturday, Nov. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Location: Knox Presbyterian Church, 9 Victoria St. N.

Description: Varieties of cookies & squares for $8/lb. An easy & fun way to stock up on home-made baking for the holiday. Coffee, muffins & talent table items also for sale.

Kintail School Flea Market, Kintail

Date: Saturday, Nov. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Hwy. 21 north of Kintail on west side of road

Description: Browse through a vast array of treasures in the unique setting of former school SS#3 Ashfield. Enjoy a taste of good country-style cooking in the kitchen.

Crafts, Collectibles and Keepsakes Show & Sale, Seaforth

Date: Saturday, Nov. 24 & Sunday, Nov. 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Seaforth & District Community Centre, 122 Duke St.

Description: Something for everyone, including special gifts, dolls, candles, handmade crafts, collectibles, Nascar, construction and farm toys, sports cards and so much more. Plus door prizes, free skate on Sunday, and special appearance by Santa. Visit the Seaforth Agricultural Society’s Facebook page for a chance to win a $25 voucher for any of the vendors. Admission: $4 daily, children under 10 free.

Wingham Lions Santa Claus Parade, Wingham

Date: Saturday, Nov. 24, from 11 a.m. to noon

Location: Wingham Lions Santa Claus parade will wind its way down Josephine Street in Wingham.  Children are invited to meet Santa at the Fire Hall following the parade.

Tour of a Lifetime, Wingham

Date: Saturday, Nov. 24, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Location: Wingham United Church, 217 Minnie St.

Description: Final tour featuring singer, songwriter Ron Klusmeier. Tickets, $20, and include a donation to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and to the designated church of the purchaser.

SUNDAY

Tour of a Lifetime, Bayfield

Date: Sunday, Nov. 25, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Location: Bayfield St. Andrew’s United Church, 22 Louisa St.

Description: Final tour featuring singer, songwriter Ron Klusmeier. Tickets, $20 for adults, $5 age 16 and under, and include a 25% donation to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

Celtic Musicians In Concert, Exeter

Date: Sunday, Nov. 25, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Exeter United Church, 42 James St.

Description: Celtic musicians Steel City Rovers, former members of Rant Maggie Rant, presents of Winter Tidings, a musical journey of seasonal selections performed by some of Ontario’s top Celtic musicians. Tickets at church office, 519.-235-0860, or at the door $15 or $40 for a family.

Hospital Auxiliary’s Tree of Lights Celebration, Seaforth

Date: Sunday, Nov. 25, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Location: Seaforth Community Hospital. Santa will visit with patients. There is a Santa letter box and work display of local public school children.

Christmas Concert and Dinner, Goderich

Date: Sunday, Nov. 25, from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Location: St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 156 North St.

Description: Get into the Christmas spirit by attending a concert and turkey dinner in support of the St. Anne’s S.S. “Me to We” Group to build an agricultural school in Kenya. 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Soundsation Christmas Concert; 5p.m.: CWL Christmas Dinner. Tickets for concert only, $12.50; tickets for concert and dinner, $25.Available at Ernie King Music.
