Author of The Western Light will read at Village Bookshop

BAYFIELD – Canadian author Susan Swan will read from her latest novel, The Western Light, at the Village Bookshop in Bayfield on Friday night.

The Western Light is narrated by 12-year-old Mouse, a young girl whose character is based, in part, on Swan’s own childhood, growing up uncomfortable with her physical appearance and the daughter of a doctor who had little time for his family. It is a prequel to The Wives of Bath, published in 1993.

Swan has retired from her position of associate professor of Humanities at York University and currently mentors creative writing students at the University of Toronto and Humber College’s School of Creative Writing.

A native of southwestern Ontario and graduate of McGill University, Swan makes her home and garden in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood.

The reading will begin at 7:30 p.m., with a question and answer period led by Grand Bend author and playwright Paul Ciufo.

A review of Swan’s latest book can be read online at The Globe and Mail.
