HURON COUNTY – It’s a long week in Huron County, with plenty to do that will keep the whole family busy. Its many communities love to boast about their heritage, whether its through walking tours, driving tours, archives or museums. Here’s a sampling of events:

Friday

Brussels Farmers’ Market, Brussels

Date: Friday, Aug. 3, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays through to Oct. 5

Location: Historic downtown Brussels across from the Post Office and beside the LCBO.

Fresh produce, preserves, jams & jellies, organic meats, perogies, baking, plants, flowers, wood products, live food stations, and much more. Artisans crafts as well. Live entertainment.

Piping Down the Sun, Goderich

Date: Friday, Aug. 3, one hour before sunset

Location: Rotary Cove

Join the Celtic Blue Highlanders Pipe Band every Friday evening, one hour before sunset, until Aug. 24 as they “pipe down the sun.”

Saturday

Farmers’ Market, Dungannon

Date: Saturday, Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Location: Dungannon Agricultural Hall

Fresh local produce and baking, plants, used books and canned preservatives.

BIA Farmers’ Market, Goderich

Date: Saturday, Aug. 4, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: Downtown Square

Check out the fresh produce, baked goods, plants and crafts at the BIA Farmers’ Market in its new format in downtown Goderich. The space
used will be the periphery of Courthouse Square, encompassing the angle parking spaces and sidewalk promenade, with vending toward the sidewalk and storefronts. The sections of The Square used for the Farmers’ Market will be from South Street corner, around counter clockwise to Hamilton Street.

An Old-Fashioned Carnival, Goderich

Date: Saturday, Aug. 4, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Location: Courtyard, Huron Historic Gaol, 181 Victoria Street N.

Activities and light refreshments by donation. This is a fundraiser.

Coffeehouse Featuring Bud Mabon and Friends, Goderich

Date: Saturday, Aug. 4, starting at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m

Location: East Street Station, 1 Maitland Rd. N.

Well-known Goderich musician Bud Mabon headlines this evening of blues and his own ‘out of the box’ musical flavour with tunes from Ray LaMontagne, Mose Allison, Ray Charles to name a few. Having been in many different groups since starting to play in the early 1960s, Bud has gathered many accomplished musician friends. Some will be showcased at this Coffeehouse, including his son Jesse, Lily-Ann MacDonald from BC, John McDowell, Paul Kruse, Don Crawford, Ashley Anderson and Jenna Ujiye. Tickets, $15 in advance/$18 at the door, available at the Station or on its website.

Kintail School Flea Market, Kintail

Date: Saturday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Hwy. 21 north of Kintail on west side of road

Browse through a vast array of treasures in the unique setting of former school SS#3 Ashfield. Enjoy a taste of good country-style cooking in the kitchen.

Sunday

Bayfield Flea Market, Bayfield

Date: Sunday, Aug. 5, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: Agricultural Park behind arena

Vendors include antique dealers, arts and crafts, farm produce and more.

Clinton Raceway, Clinton

Date: Sunday, Aug. 5, post time at 1:30 p.m.

Come watch trotters and pacers compete for purses on a half-mile track through the summer months.

Goderich Firefighters Breakfast, Goderich

Date: Sunday, Aug. 5, from 7 a.m. to noon.

Location: Goderich Firehall, 248 Suncoast Dr. E.

17th annual breakfast of bacon, sausage, eggs, home fries, pancakes, toast, jam, coffee & juice. Cost: Adults, $7; Kids 9 to 12, $5; Kids under 8, free.

Flea Market, Goderich

Date: Sunday, Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Location: Downtown Square

Book Launch for The “Tiger”: Soldier, Engineer and Army Surgeon, Goderich

Date: Sunday, Aug. 5, from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Tiger Dunlop’s Tomb; rain location – Huron County Museum

An annotated transcription of Dr. William Dunlop’s Recollections of the American War by Paul Carroll. Released to commemorate Tiger’s role in the War of 1812.

Sunday Concerts, Goderich

Date: Sunday, Aug. 5, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Location: Lions Harbour Park, 168 West St.

Bring your lawn chair or blanket to beautiful Harbour Park every Sunday evening throughout the summer and enjoy a variety of live bands as you watch the sun go down. Cost: Freewill. Brought to you by Goderich Laketown Band. This week’s feature: Kincardine Brass Band.
