Bayfield: Where art, maritime meet this weekend

Kelly Highland performs with her band.

Bullet News BAYFIELD – Two women sat on the porch at the top end of Bayfield’s main street, guiding long bits of cut fabric through a canvas stretched on a hoop. As they worked the rug fabric, they watched the goings on at the annual Sail and Canvas event.

Across the street, a glee club readied to sing some old favourites and draw into a sing-along people gathered on the sidewalk and seated at nearby outdoor restaurant patios. Further down the street, an artist chose from her palette of acrylic paints to create a rural landscape dominated by an open sky. At the corner, a band set up an impromptu stage and performed under an umbrella. Everywhere, the sidewalks brimmed with tourists who had come to the village for the annual festival that marries art and maritime on a canvas theme.

Please have a look at our photo album that captures some of the events from mid-afternoon today. Sail and Canvas continues tomorrow.
