Call for Applications -$25,000 in Student Awards Available to Local Youth

PRESS RELEASE

ESSEX – Building upon its long-standing commitment to youth, United Communities Credit Union announced today it will distribute $25,000 to local students to give them a financial boost for post-secondary education.

The MyUnited Student Award recognizes local students who have balanced academic achievement with a demonstrated commitment to the social and environmental wellbeing of their school and their community.

“We also want to recognize students that have a wide-range of post-secondary plans, which is why we opened up the award to students attending colleges, universities, apprenticeship programs as well as technical institutes and private colleges” states Liz Arkinstall, Manager of Community Relations.

“Beyond the financial award, all applicants will have access to a personalized one-on-one financial coaching session to discuss the ins and outs of money management, from budgeting and saving to student loans and credit cards, and the importance of maintaining a good credit rating” says United Communities President and CEO Jim Lynn. “Financial literacy is a life skill we should all have”.

United Communities also offers a no-fee chequing account until age 26, as well as competitive rates on student lines of credit.

Online applications are being accepted until June 15th and are available at myunited.ca/studentaward
