JOHN HAZLITT Sun, 24 Feb 2013 22:17:35 +0000 /?p=11799#comment-31879 What we have here in Huckins Industrial Park is municipal land both serviced and unserviced, closed business, abandoned buildings and one building that should be condemned and removed. Is this the immpression that north bound travellers will think of the Town of Goderich?? A Town in recession and no one cares??
Now on the other hand, Mayor makes comments about extending Parson Court to provide for small business. The Industrial Revolution was over some time ago. To extend Parson Court will require close to now $3 million if even allowed to take place.
The extension of Parson Court will greatly affect the viability of Maitland Woods Urban Forest and Wetland that is full of protected, rare, and primitive species. Just check the terrestrial biologists’ reports. The area is protected by the Source Water Protection Act, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (Mayor is Chair). The most imortant part of all is that the MWUF and wetland (original since the ice age) has become a crown jewel of urban forests of any municipality in the province of Ontario and of course, even more important, the MWUF is one of the largest tourist attractions for Goderich . Some 11,000 plus people and students access the area for pleasure and research and learning. Every day the MWUF offers new species and growth. Instead of the desire to destroy, we should be working as a community to enhance.

I believe that we are ALL in this together. So I have to ask again, Mayor, and yes, you are the Mayor of Goderich and the chair of MVCA, why are you so reluctant to take care of the Bluewater Beach Gully erosion situation (the largest and fastest growing gulley on this side of Lake Huron?) when you know it is Goderich Huckins Industrial Park’s uncontrolled surface water that is 100% the cause of the situation. I have to repeat that the Municipal Drainage Act was used to request of Gamsby and Mannerow to assess, engineer and design control structures and drainage to stop the erosion at Bluewater Beach. The report is in Town hands and has been approved.
