Parents sought for local school board’s committee

SEAFORTH – The local public school board is looking for parents who want to be part of a partnership to ensure student success.

The Avon Maitland District is seeking new members to fill vacancies on the Avon Maitland Parent Involvement Committee. Last year our PIC organized the highly successful Ignite Parents event held in Stratford and the committee hopes to offer this event once again, but in a different location. It also discusses parent priorities across and advises the board on those priorities.

The first meeting of PIC is Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 pm at the Education Centre in Seaforth. The Avon Maitland PIC is extending an invitation to all parents to attend the first meeting and help make PIC strong again this school year. For more information, check its website or call the Board at 519-527-0111 ext 106.

This is interesting. This is the first time I’ve read about a board having difficulty getting parents. Usually the PICs are drawn from elected school councils. Could this be an indication that maybe the councils aren’t healthy?
