HURON COUNTY – Any summer day in Huron County is an adventure in professional theatre, fine dining, art showcases, leisurely shopping and hiking. Take your pick of travel adventures in Ontario’s West Coast travel guide, available online or at tourism centres.

If you’re looking for something to do over the weekend, here’s a sampling of events:

Friday

Brussels 140th Homecoming Celebrations, Brussels

Date: Friday, July 27 to Sunday, July 29

Location: Various

The village’s rich Western tradition runs through its homecoming celebrations this weekend, rodeo events and horse events, cattle sorting competition, hoedowns, parade and even a saloon. In the mix is sports competitions, soap box derby, bath tub races and food. For a full listing of the schedule, visit online.

Brussels Farmers’ Market, Brussels

Date: Friday, July 27, from noon to 6 p.m. Special hours for Brussels140th Homecoming, but usually 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays through to Oct. 5

Location: Historic downtown Brussels across from the Post Office and beside the LCBO.

Fresh produce, preserves, jams & jellies, organic meats, perogies, baking, plants, flowers, wood products, live food stations, and much more. Artisans crafts as well. Live entertainment.

Piping Down the Sun, Goderich

Date: Friday, July 27, one hour before sunset

Location: Rotary Cove

Join the Celtic Blue Highlanders Pipe Band every Friday evening, one hour before sunset, until Aug. 24 as they “pipe down the sun.”

Saturday

Farmers’ Market, Dungannon

Date: Saturday, July 28 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Location: Dungannon Agricultural Hall

Fresh local produce and baking, plants, used books and canned preservatives.

BIA Farmers’ Market, Goderich

Date: Saturday, July 28, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: Downtown Square

Check out the fresh produce, baked goods, plants and crafts at the BIA Farmers’ Market in its new format in downtown Goderich. The space
used will be the periphery of Courthouse Square, encompassing the angle parking spaces and sidewalk promenade, with vending toward the sidewalk and storefronts. The sections of The Square used for the Farmers’ Market will be from South Street corner, around counter clockwise to Hamilton Street.

Red Tape Music Festival, Goderich

Date: Saturday, July 28, 1:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Location: Lions Harbour Park

Featuring 15 incredibly talented artists and bands on one stage: Courage My Love; Unlimited; Boy in December; On Corinthians; Six Word Story; Perish; Kyle Reid; Dyadics; Credit Valley; Builder Refused; Neil Salter; Fiends; Amity Beach; Adria Anderson; and Emily Hartman. Advance tickets, $18, available at Ernie King Music and Radiant Life Books. $20 at the door.

Kintail School Flea Market, Kintail

Date: Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Hwy. 21 north of Kintail on west side of road

Browse through a vast array of treasures in the unique setting of former school SS#3 Ashfield. Enjoy a taste of good country-style cooking in the kitchen.

The Fiend Live in 3D, Bayfield

Date: Saturday, July 28, starting at 10 p.m.

Location: 1 Bluewater Hwy.

Local band playing covers, originals and requests. According to its Facebook site: A typical Fiends show starts you off nice and warm with some baby makin’ music, gets you going with some introspective soul and finishes you off with a blast of hot metal through the temples.

Sunday

Bayfield Flea Market, Bayfield

Date: Sunday, July 29, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: Agricultural Park behind arena

Vendors include antique dealers, arts and crafts, farm produce and more.

Music at the Barn Series, Bayfield

Date: Sunday, July 29, starting at 2 p.m.

Location: Kryart Studio, 24 Main St. N.

Featuring Danielle Durand, with powerful and soulful vocals. Drawing musical inspiration from anything from Aerosmith to Motown to Canadian singer-songwriters, you never know what she will come out with next. Danielle is the coordinator at the Music at the Barn Series. Tickets available at 519-993-3154.

Clinton Raceway, Clinton

Date: Sunday, July 29, post time at 1:30 p.m.

Come watch trotters and pacers compete for purses on a half-mile track through the summer months.

Flea Market, Goderich

Date: Sunday, July 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Location: Downtown Square

Sunday Concerts, Goderich

Date: Sunday, July 29, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Location: Lions Harbour Park, 168 West St.

Bring your lawn chair or blanket to beautiful Harbour Park every Sunday evening throughout the summer and enjoy a variety of live bands as you watch the sun go down. Cost: Freewill. Brought to you by Goderich Laketown Band. This week’s feature: The Crippled Ducks.
