Bullet News CENTRAL HURON – A new top administrator for the Municipality of Central Huron will start the job on July 31, after council passed a bylaw to confirm the hiring yesterday.
Peggy Van Mierlo-West was hired from a field of seven candidates who were interviewed for the position that’s been vacant for the past six months. For the past nine months, she has been the director of public works in the Township of West Lincoln, which is located in the Niagara Region.
Jim Ginn, who is the mayor of Central Huron, said the new CAO will be supported by a “great staff team” to implement a plan for the coming year.
She will lead a management team that’s been in place since the amalgamation of the townships of Goderich and Hullett and the Town of Clinton in January 2001.
None of the candidates interviewed with the assistance of local government consultant Nigel Bellchamber, of N.G. Bellchamber and Associates had previous experience as chief administrative officer in municipal government.
The municipality lost its chief administrative officer with the departure of Kevin Mcllwain in December 2011. Jack McLachlan came of retirement as head of neighbouring Municipality of Huron East to work two days a week for up to six months.
